# Stateful Stages

While side-effect free stages is ideal (and common), there are times where being able to manage local state is needed. For example, tracking the list of previously banned IP's is useful to avoid re-banning the same address. Being able to use the stage's config to store arbitrary data is a useful tool, but one that should not be abused.
